FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Is New Zealand tap water safe to drink?

Town supply water is generally safe to drink, but it pays to check your water source, get your water tested, and stay up-to-date about temporary events that might affect your water supply. If you are unsure whether your water is potable, give us a call on 0800 60 40 40 to talk to a member of our team about your water source and how you can get your water tested.

Do I need a water filter?

All water sources can benefit from filtration, whether it be town supply water or a natural water source such as rain water. If you are unsure about what filter you need, give us a call on 0800 60 40 40 to talk to a member of our team about how our range of water filters can improve your water quality.

Are your filters compatible with my existing system?

In a lot of cases, our water filters and lamps are compatible with other water filtration systems (e.g. Puretec or Davey systems). Give our team a call on 0800 60 40 40 with some details about your current system and we'll guide you toward the right product to suit your needs.

What order should my filter cartridges be installed in?

Depending on the filters you have ordered, the first cartridge will usually be a sediment pre-filter (e.g. Polyspun, Pleated, or String Wound filters) with the higher micron (µm) rating (e.g. a 50µm should be installed before a 20µm). If you have a second sediment filter, then this should be installed next, followed by the carbon filter (if you have one).

In the case of our Healthy Choice fluoride reduction system, the fluoride reduction filter should be installed before the PB1 carbon block. Feel free to give our team a call on 0800 60 40 40 if you need further clarification.

How often do I need to replace my water filter cartridges?

The lifespan of a cartridge depends on the manufacturer's recommended hygienic replacement time or the amount of litres/gallons of water that the cartridge is rated to filter. For example, the smaller Omnipure inline filters are typically rated for 1 year (e.g. the K2567 6MM) or 5,678 litres of water, whereas the larger Omnipure inline filters (e.g. the K5567 6MM) are rated for 2 years or 7,570 litres of water.

We typically recommend an annual replacement of our under bench, benchtop, and whole house water filter cartridges, but the real-world lifespan of a filter can depend on a variety of factors such as the source and quality of your water, the number of people living in your home, whether people are home full-time, and more. If you are unsure about whether your filter needs replacing, give our team a call on 0800 60 40 40 to get a more accurate answer specific to your system.

How do I reset my ballast?

When you replace the lamp in your Bug Buster Alpine Series or Pro Series UV system, you will need to manually reset the ballast - the timer does not know that the lamp is new, nor does it automatically reset itself. A ballast showing an "A3" code on the display means the ballast has counted down the full 365 days and the lamp is at the end of it's life, meaning the lamp needs replacing and the ballast needs resetting (once a new lamp is installed). To reset your ballast, follow the instructions below which are relevant to your ballast:

Alpine Pure ballast (AP BAL 41 & AP BAL 100 etc): Switch off or disconnect the power to the ballast. Next, hold down the silver button on the front of the ballast and reapply power to the controller. After about 10-20 seconds you should see "rSET", followed by "L365" a few seconds later, and the ballast should produce an audible tone - you can release the button at this point.

Viqua ballasts (BA-ICE-CL & BA-ICE-S etc): Switch off or disconnect the power to the ballast. Next, hold down the small black timer reset button on the side of the ballast and reapply power to the controller. After about 20-30 seconds you should see "rSET", at which point you can release the button. After about 5 seconds you should hear an audible tone from the ballast, and the display should show 365 (which means the 365 day timer has reset).
